El Zocalo in Acapulco, Mexico
El Zocalo is pretty much the equivalent of a town square in Acapulco. The area is nicely shaded with lush greenery that includes trees and decorative plants. Additionally there is a large bandstand in the center of the area in which live music is a common occurrence on Sunday afternoons for the free enjoyment of locals and tourists alike. In addition to great music there are often dance shows that allow the local talent to take center stage while reminding everyone of the rich history and many talented people in and around Acapulco. While it isn't quite a dive show, Sunday afternoon at El Zocalo is still a worthy experience and a great deal of fun for everyone whether you are on a romantic escape, a second honeymoon, a business trip, or have brought the entire family along with you.
There are also plenty of craft shops and vendors in the area to give you a pleasant opportunity to do a little souvenir shopping while enjoying the atmosphere. This is also a business center for Acapulco with banks and travel agencies located nearby as well as Acapulco's Cathedral. While this isn't the only thing to do while visiting Acapulco, paying a visit to El Zocalo is definitely a worthy diversion from the usual tourist sports and should prove to make for an interesting morning or afternoon during your stay. Make plans to add a visit to El Zocalo to at least one of your days while in Acapulco; you'll be glad you did.
